Motorcycle Fatality on Road 222 East of Auberry Road

NORTH FORK — On May 5, 2022, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Merced Communications Center (MCC) broadcast a call of a traffic collision with a motorcycle down and an ambulance responding in the area of Road 222 and Road 221 (11-79). CHP Oakhurst Area Units responded to the scene.

It was determined the true location of the collision was Road 222, east of Auberry Road.

When units arrived on scene, CAL FIRE units were on scene and CPR was in progress. EMS arrived shortly after and the subject was pronounced deceased. The Madera County Coroner was notified by the Madera Sheriff unit on scene.

Through their investigation on scene, it was determined that Party 1 (P-1) was riding Vehicle 1 (V-1) eastbound on Road 222 at an undetermined speed, east of Auberry Road. P-1 failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway, causing V-1 to travel on the south dirt shoulder of Road 222. P-1 was eventually ejected and V-1 struck a wooden sign belonging to the U.S. Department of Forestry.

V-1 was taken by PATS towing and the Madera County Coroner will be making notification to the next of kin.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. No lanes were closed and traffic was unaffected.
