Missing Hikers Located In Yosemite

YOSEMITE — ABC30 reports that one of the missing hikers in Yosemite, Dave Brown, walked into a ranger station late Tuesday morning, and Javier Avelar was located a short time later.

The condition of the two hikers is not known at this time.

Avelar and Brown had planned a six-day backpacking trip near Hetch Hetchy and did not show up for work this week. The search began yesterday.

Park officials say the two Fullerton firefighters, who are experienced backpackers, planned to hike the Smith Meadow Trail and were supposed to finish through White Wolf on Sunday. However, they did not return.

ABC30 reports that their car had been located, and that Fullerton Fire Chief Wolfgang Knabe had put together a team of about 20 searchers, working with the Park Service.
