Minarets High School Presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

By Isabel Olivas —

COARSEGOLD — It may be a tale as old as time, but this year the Minarets Drama Club is putting on Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. To date, this will be their biggest production yet and the actors are working tirelessly at rehearsals.

According to the Drama Director, Mrs. West, they will be taking a minimalist approach on the play itself, meaning that they will not use a large set and the actors will be the set. Their inspiration came from the performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in Ashland, Oregon this Fall.

While many of the details are underwraps, Miss Urrutia, the Spanish teacher and Dance Club adviser, gave us the inside scoop; she has been choreographing the larger ensemble dance numbers.

Senior Jackson Cosby is portraying the Beast and “he brings a great sense of passion and sensitivity to the complex character of the Beast.”

Sophomore Emma Lynch is “a natural Belle, expressing great emotion with beautiful vocals and movement.”

According to Mrs. West, “this has been a fantastic show for both of them to grow in their acting and to showcase the phenomenal actors they are.”

Minarets Drama will have two performances of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, one on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., and two shows on Saturday, Dec. 2 with a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening performance to close out the production. Curtains rise at the Yosemite Lakes Community Church.

The cost for students to attend is $10 and adults enter for $12.

Along with the production, there will be a Disney-themed Art Show put on by the Minarets Art Club.

Yosemite Lakes Community Church is located at 43840 Patrick Avenue in Yosemite Lakes Park, Coarsegold, CA.
