Memorial Day “Run To Remember” Benefits Local Youth

AHWAHNEE — The Eastern Madera County Bar Association will hold the first annual “Run to Remember” event honoring Memorial Day, on Monday, May 28, with proceeds benefiting select Yosemite High School activities.

The one-mile run/walk and 5k run start and end at the Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park, as the race meanders along the park’s dirt trails, providing beautiful views of the mountains and adjacent meadows.

The conclusion of the race will be followed by food, drinks, and awards.

The cost to participate is $20 for the one-mile walk and $30 for the 5K, with proceeds going to Yosemite High School Mock Trial, Cross-Country, International Baccalaureate Program, and Cadet Corps. Online registration ends at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 26.

Ahwahnee Park is home to a Veterans’ Memorial installed nearly a year ago, featuring a granite marker beneath flags representing each branch of service in the United States armed forces. The memorial was developed by local groups including the Marine Corps League Griswald Mt. Detachment #1121 and the VFW, with help from Friends of Ahwahnee Regional Park, local Boy Scouts, and members of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, Grub Gulch 41-49, ECV, otherwise known as the Clampers.

Meetings of the Eastern Madera County Bar Association are typically held the third or fourth Tuesday of the month at Sweetwater Steakhouse in Oakhurst.
