Memorial Day Ceremonies In The Mountain Area

MOUNTAIN AREA — A handful of opportunities in various neighborhoods are available this Memorial Day for the community to honor those who have served and sacrificed.

The Little Church on the Hill at Oakhill Cemetery will hold a church service at 9 a.m. as part of area Memorial Day Ceremonies, which includes those conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8743 and Marine Corps League Griswold Mountain Detachment 1121.

Ceremonies will be be held on Monday, May 27, according to the following schedule:

9 a.m.   The Indian Cemetery at the Wassama Round House in Ahwahnee
10 a.m. The Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst
11 a.m.  The Picayune Cemetery above the Casino in Coarsegold
1 p.m.   The North Fork Cemetery

This Memorial Day Ceremony will consist of:

A reading about Memorial Day, the Chaplain’s request for a divine blessing, the placement of flowers and a flag on the grave of a fallen comrade, the firing of three rifle volleys and the playing of Taps.
