MARIPOSA – Everyone who gardens can always use clever ideas. The Mariposa Master Gardener annual Spring Garden Tour Saturday, June 1, is full of them.
There is a huge garden with endless irises, a pool with a view –and a metal palm tree — an orchard and lots of repurposed materials. Downtown, there is a condo patio that’s a cool, peaceful Asian-style retreat with miniaturized trees.
Then there’s the mountainside garden with a whimsical bent in accessories and a view that will knock your socks off.
At one home, you can see what can be done to direct water where you want it and enjoy pleasing greenery with practically no water. A world of roses, a shady front yard and two — count ’em, two — types of plant houses are some attractions at another home garden.
The sixth garden on the tour is the native-plant demonstration garden created and maintained by the Master Gardeners,
It is on Stroming Road between 6th and 8th streets, along Mariposa Creek.
The annual event begins at 9 a.m. at the creekside garden with a short celebration of the garden’s 10th anniversary and native-plant giveaway. The home-garden tours begin at 9:30 at any of the gardens.
