Master Gardener Of The Year Honored

MARIPOSA – Ingrid Angelini has been named Mariposa Master Gardener of the Year for her many contributions to the University of California-affiliated volunteer organization.

She created the wall-size display for the Mariposa County Fair, which showed the history of the Cooperative Extension program, the parent of Master Gardeners.

Master Gardener Jim JohnsonAmong her other projects were a presentation on the extensive water cachement system at her home, which allows the family to depend on rain water rather than pumping for much of the year; her dedication to the Master Gardener demonstration garden along Mariposa Creek; workshop presentations; assisting at the annual garden tour, and serving on the bylaws committee, which created new directives for the group.

Master Gardener Rusty AveryOther awards presented at the December meeting were for hours served. As a group, Master Gardeners have given 41,413 hours of volunteer service to the community since organizing in 1995.

Milestones noted: Rusty Avery and Jim Johnson, 2,500 hours; Elizabeth Gabriel and Helen Willoughby-Peck, 750 hours; Sally Punte and Holly Warner, 500 hours; Patti Sue Ogletree, 250 hours; Dan Horner, Linda O’Connor and Katee Owens, 150 hours.
