Mariposa Students: AAUW’s Got Their Backs

MARIPOSA — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Mariposa branch’s Backpack Committee has wrapped up another successful project, ensuring that 51 students started their school year with high quality backpacks and school supplies. For the past ten years Mariposa AAUW has helped provide backpacks and supplies to middle school students throughout our county who may not have had all the school supplies they need to be successful.

This year’s backpack project was especially meaningful, as we expanded the project to include students of all ages who lost their homes in the Detwiler Fire. AAUW members participated in this project in a variety of ways including shopping for school supplies and backpacks, contributing funding, and lending a hand at our Backpack Fill Party.

We are grateful for generous donations from our community friends, the Soroptimists and the Mariposa Community Foundation. With all this teamwork, we were able to reach our objective to help students be prepared, confident, and successful in their new school year!

The Backpack Project is just one of several school and community programs offered by Mariposa AAUW, a branch of the 133-year-old national organization dedicated to advancing equity and lifelong learning for women and girls.
