MARIPOSA – Listen up, golfers and Rotary supporters! Teams are forming now for the annual Mariposa Rotary Golf Tournament to benefit the Mollie Suh Yaley Scholarship, a fund which has given tens of thousands of dollars to Mariposa County High School graduating seniors since its inception in 2004.
Also known as the Mollie Suh Yaley Memorial Golf Tournament, the Rotary event takes place this year on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Sierra Meadows Country Club in Ahwahnee.
It’s an 18-hole four person scramble, with check-in at 8 a.m. and tee time at 9 a.m.
The per-player cost of $90 for the fundraoser includes all you need: green fees and cart, tee prizes, continental breakfast, snacks, and awards dinner. Participants will compete in contests for closest-to-hole, straight drive, and hole-in-one. We think they’re even giving away Mulligans. Be on the lookout for what’s shaping up to be an outstanding raffle, as well.
The Mollie Suh Yaley Scholarship is among the largest locally funded scholarship programs available to Mariposa County High School Students, according to organizers. Established in 2004, the scholarship honors the memory and continues the legacy of Mollie Suh Yaley, a 1994 graduate of Mariposa County High School who passed away in 2002. “She possessed determination, strength, caring, a friendly spirit and love of family,” say those who knew her.
As a tribute to Mollie’s vibrant life in Mariposa, the Rotary Scholarship Committee looks for well-rounded, dedicated and determined students who have been active in school leadership, school service and activities, athletics, community service and outside youth activities. The Committee members choose one male and one female winner from the pool of applicants. The program has grown from humble beginnings; most recently, two students were awarded $10,000 each.
