Mariposa Man Seriously Injured in Suspected DUI Crash

BASS LAKE –A 25-year-old Mariposa man was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries following a single-vehicle accident Friday night on Road 222.

The incident, which happened about 9:30 p.m., resulted in the driver’s subsequent arrest for suspicion of D.U.I., according to a report issued by the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP report, released Saturday afternoon, the Mariposa resident was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup northbound on Road 222, just south of Saddleback Road when his vehicle drifted to the right, went off the paved portion of the roadway and then collided head-on with a tree.

The driver sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and had to be transported by helicopter to Fresno, the CHP report stated.

According to the report, there were no passengers in the vehicle.

“Alcohol was determined to be a a factor in this collision and [the driver] was placed under arrest for suspicion of D.U.I.,” the report also stated.

The case remains under investigation.
