Mariposa Man Arrested On Rape And Kidnapping Charges

MARIPOSA – A 46-year-old Mariposa man has been taken into custody following allegations of sexual assault by a woman he met online.

On the afternoon of Nov. 13, Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an adult female victim reporting she had been raped on a ranch located on the CYA road in the Mt. Bullion area of Mariposa County.

Jerry CoxAccording to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, the woman identified her attacker as Jerry Cox, 46, of Mariposa.

The victim stated she was not from Mariposa County and had met Cox on an online agricultural dating site. She reportedly traveled to his home to meet him, and that’s when she says Cox assaulted, forcibly raped and held her against her will.

Jerry Cox was arrested and booked into the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility on the evening of Nov. 13. His bail is currently set at $500,000 and he is being held on the following charges:

261(A)(2) PC – Felony Rape by Force/Fear

236 PC – Felony False Imprisonment

207(C) PC – Felony Kidnapping

422(A) PC – Felony Criminal Threats
