Mariposa County Sees First COVID-19 Fatality

MARIPOSA — County health officials have reported the first local death from COVID-19.

Health officials confirmed Friday morning that a 78-year-old Mariposa County woman died from coronavirus. The woman, who reportedly had underlying health conditions, contracted COVID-19 from a Stanislaus County nursing and rehabilitation center, health officials said.

Mariposa County has reported a total of just 15 cases. All of the other virus victims are now fully recovered.

Earlier this week, Mariposa County was given the go-ahead by state health officials to move to phase 2.5 of the governor’s reopening plan.
