Mariposa Celebrates Heroes On 9/11

MARIPOSA COUNTY — The public is invited to honor all veterans on Sunday, Sept. 11, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park.

Before the ceremony at the park, everyone is invited to join with veterans and “22 Too Many,” a veteran’s health support group, at the Mariposa VFW at 1 p.m. to walk from the VFW to the Mariposa 9/11 Memorial in the Art Park.

22 Too Many is a group that supports veterans, and whose mission it is to bring awareness to the challenges they face, including the 22 veteran suicides that are occurring every day across our nation.

The ceremony at the Art Park will begin at 2 p.m. with a welcome from Sheriff Doug Binnewies, followed by an invocation by the Sheriff Chaplain.

Staff Sergeant Bryce Battershell will share about 22 Too Many, and after a prayer and a moment of silence during flag raising the Sheriff Honor Guard will raise the new 9/11 flag. A Fire Bell Ceremony will conclude the event.

The Mariposa VFW Hall is located behind the Chamber of Commerce at 5158 Highway 140. The Mariposa County Art Park is located at 5013 Highway 41.

Later in the day, VFW Post 9454 and the Auxiliary will be hosting the 9/11 Honor Our Fallen Heroes at the Coulterville Park at 7 p.m. After a short presentation, the group will participate in a candlelight walk down Main Street. Ice Cream and cupcakes will follow the ceremony.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in honoring our veterans and fallen heroes.
