Marine Corps League Flags & Roses For Veterans, Students

OAKHURST — If you’re shopping around town on Saturday, July 20, you may notice members of the Marine Corps League Griswold Mountain Detachment #1121, who will be stationed outside of Von’s, Grocery Outlet and True Value from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s one of the days that the group promotes the Marine Corps League’s Flags And Roses campaign with a mission to preserve Marine Corps traditions, lend assistance to Marine veterans, including veterans of other military branches, and to provide opportunities for service, camaraderie, and fellowship within our communities.

So if you find yourself at one of these locations this Saturday, stop and say hello. They’ll be giving out American flags and small silk roses, and accepting donations to help support the League’s good works locally.

Members of the local Marine Corps League were instrumental in establishing the veterans memorials at Ahwahnee Regional Park and Coarsegold Village, are in attendance at formal ceremonies including Memorial Day and Patriots Day commemorations, put on a Marine Corps birthday ball every year and give away scholarships to graduating area students.
