Manhunt Causes Lockdown At Coarsegold Elementary

COARSEGOLD – The Coarsegold school was locked down this afternoon from shortly after 3 p.m. until about 4:45 p.m. while a manhunt was underway for George Walter Rosenberg, 41, of Mariposa.

Rosenberg was wanted on a no bail warrant for narcotics charges when a deputy spotted his vehicle in the Coarsegold area near Road 415, and attempted to make contact.Rosenberg jumped into his 1998 dark green Toyota pickup and tried to run the officer down. The deputy fired several shots at the vehicle, which kept going and sped from the scene, according the Madera County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Erica Stuart.

Rosenberg is now wanted for the attempted murder of a peace officer.

The school was locked down in an abundance of caution. With shots being fired in the area, and a dangerous suspect on the loose, the sheriff’s office took steps to keep everyone in the area safe.

CHP helicopter was searching from the air, and both sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers worked to seal off the area.

The deputy who made the initial contact is uninjured.
