MADERA COUNTY – Sheriff John Anderson is warning residents about a man posing as a Sergeant with the “Warrants Division,” who is trying to con citizens out of their cash, telling them a warrant has been issued for their arrest.
An Eastern Madera County woman received the call today and reported the incident to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office just moments ago.
She said a man identifying himself as Sergeant Eric Lawson advised her that she must secure a money order for $4,000 or face arrest.
When she asked to speak to his Captain, he hung up. Caller ID showed the number as 559-203-5920.
Sheriff Anderson says If you receive such a call, or something similar in nature, immediately hang up. It’s a scam.
