Man Claiming To Be U.S. Diplomat Arrested

MADERA COUNTY – Two Chowchilla men are behind bars facing felony drug charges following an early morning vehicle stop near a Valero gas station on Avenue 24 in Chowchilla.

One listed his occupation as U.S. Diplomat, and the other is wanted for vehicle theft.Richard David Velez, 44, along with Johnathan Daniel Cobian, 25, were booked into Madera County Department of Corrections shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 5.

Johnathan Daniel CobianCobian, who is on probation for vehicle theft, was wanted on three warrants – one for vehicle theft, and two for traffic violations.

Both suspects were found to be in possession of methamphetamine, and both remain behind bars, Cobian with bail set at $25,000, and Velez with bail set at $5,000.
