Makayla Demeusy Hosts Dinner For Dream Center

COARSEGOLD — Minarets student Makayla Demeusy invites the community to a very special dinner that will benefit a church mission while giving locals a chance to dress up and dine out.

“For my Senior Project I am having an Elegant Dinner and Silent Auction,” explains Makayla, 17, of the event that’s set for Friday, Apr. 15 at the Coarsegold Community Center, 6 p.m. “It is a fundraiser for the Dream Center in Los Angeles and we will be having a speaker as well.”

The Dream Center is a church mission located about two miles from Downtown Los Angeles and two miles from Hollywood.

“I chose this organization because they help a lot of people,” Makayla continues. “They take in emancipated minors, homeless families and individuals, they rescue victims of sex trafficking and help them get back on their feet and give back to the community and get jobs.”

They bring in people from a wide area outside Los Angeles, adds Makayla, and plans are to open a center in Fresno. Makayla hopes that someday a Dream Center may open in the foothills.

“People can even take classes and receive their GED at The Dream Center. They do so much to help and it’s free of charge. They only take money through donation from outside sources.”

Makayla_SeniorPortraits-14Makayla has been accepted in The Dream Center Leadership School, where “young leaders discover or strengthen their unique gifts, talents, dreams and potential while building a solid foundation of Godly character and servant leadership,” according to the church website.

“I chose this Senior Project because I really love what they do at the Dream Center and how selfless they are to spend most of their days serving others and helping others become positive again. They love people they just met. If everyone was like this imagine how the world would be.”

Makayla also feels it’s up to her to set the tone for her younger brothers and sisters.

“I have five siblings whom I love with all my heart. I want to set an example to my little siblings. It really is a wonderful cause.”

Makayla hopes to have a great turnout for the Friday night elegant event.

“It will be lots of fun,” she promises, “and really good food!”
