Major Injury Accident At Bass Lake

BASS LAKE – A collision between a pickup and a motorcycle this morning closed down Road 222 on the south shore of Bass Lake for nearly two hours, and resulted in major injuries to one driver.

At 10:40 a.m. on Monday, May 24, Russ Jorzig, 66, of Oakhurst, was northbound on a Harley Davidson near “The Way of the Mono” trailhead.

For unknown reasons, he drifted across the center line and sideswiped a 2004 Toyota Tundra, driven by Kenneth Navarro, 54 of Fresno, according to CHP at the scene.

Jorzig suffered major injuries and was transported by Sierra Ambulance to a landing zone a few miles from the scene, and then airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Neither the driver nor any of the three passengers in the pickup was injured.

The road was closed in both directions as the scene was cleared and the injured man prepared for transport.
