Motorcyclist Suffers Major Injuries In Crash Near Tenaya Lodge

FISH CAMP – An Oakhurst man sustained major injuries in an accident on Highway 41 at the entrance to the Tenaya Lodge yesterday.

On Sunday, July 8, at 11:08 a.m., Charity Caverly, 66, of Caro, Mich., was sitting at the exit to the lodge in a Toyota Camry, waiting for traffic on Highway 41 to clear so she could turn left to head southbound.

Caverly apparently did not see the Harley Davidson motorcycle approaching northbound on the highway, and pulled out directly in front of Larry Hale, 63, of Oakhurst.

When Hale saw the Toyota directly in his lane, he braked, swerved and attempted to avoid the collision, but struck the driver’s side of the Toyota. He was ejected from the bike and landed in the roadway.

Hale was transported by Sierra Ambulance to the landing zone at Batterson Work Station and airlifted by SkyLife to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
