Vya Vermouth is Quady’s claim to fame
MADERA – Quady Winery is a real winner. It’s the winner of a 2012 American Treasures Award, announced last month by the nonprofit “Made: In America.”
The Madera Wine Trail winery is well known for its sweet dessert wines and its Vya vermouth.
Vya impressed the advisory committee at the nonprofit MADE: In America so much that the 37-year-old Quady Winery was a winner in this year’s American Treasures Award competition.
“We’re very proud to be recognized nationally as a unique all-American craft producer,” said winery owner Andrew Quady.
Made: In America’s American Treasures Award is given each year to individuals and proprietorships demonstrating outstanding innovation and leadership as they make their products in the U.S., with American workers.
“Long before the cocktail revolution had set in, Andrew Quady decided to experiment with creating a craft vermouth that anticipated the curve,” the Made: In America judges said about Quady’s Vya vermouth. “His vermouth takes a twist, too, and introduces new botanicals that are locally grown. Even after the onslaught of trendy vermouths, this remains the United States’ top craft vermouth.”
Quady credits the ideal weather and soil conditions in the Madera area, as well as the knowledge and hard work of his staff, for creating a product that was esteemed so highly by the judges.
“Our part of California, the San Joaquin Valley, is noted for its especially warm climate and rich soils. Certain grape varieties do especially well here,” Quady said in a recent news release. “Our business is built on the development, production, and marketing of new wine styles especially suited to grapes from our region. This sets us apart and creates a unique spirit amongst our employees because our business is like no other.”
Quady said he created Vya in 1999 with the idea that vermouth could be appreciated in a similar manner to wine: as a full sensory experience, for me, it’s like aromatherapy.”
The American Treasures Awards are presented each year in early July at the American Treasures Cullinary Experience.
