Madera County Sheriff’s Office Announces New Undersheriff

MADERA COUNTY–Effective August 1, 2022, Darin McMechan will be promoted to the position of Undersheriff for the Madera County Sheriff’s Office. Please join us in congratulating Undersheriff McMechan on all of his accomplishments, and wish him well as he continues to selflessly serve the Madera County community.
Undersheriff McMechan currently serves as Assistant Sheriff assigned to the Madera County Jail, following the merger of the Madera County Sheriff’s Office with the Madera County Jail. He rose through the ranks holding the prior positions of deputy, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and commander.

Undersheriff Darin McMechan has been employed with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office for over 34 years and has held several different assignments including Patrol (Valley/Mountains), Identification Officer, Narcotics, Boat Operations Supervisor, Search and Rescue Coordinator, Detective Supervisor, East County Division Commander Professional Standards Lieutenant and Administrative Commander. He also spent many years as a member of the SWAT and Dive Teams.

Undersheriff McMechan is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Class #252, has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management, and a master’s degree in Public Administration.
Undersheriff McMechan has been married to his wife Jennifer for 32 years and is the proud father of three children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and working out.
