MADERA — Madera County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) officials reported 70 additional cases of COVID-19 on Monday. The latest cases include those confirmed Saturday, Sunday and today, raising the total number of cases countywide to 963.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, MCDPH’s data dashboard was reporting 484 currently active cases — and 470 recoveries.
Twelve people with coronavirus are currently hospitalized and Madera County has registered nine COVID-19-related deaths since the pandemic began in March, including another death in the latest update issued Monday.

No new cases were reported Monday in Mariposa County, which has seen a total of 32 cases, 25 recoveries and one death from COVID-19.
Earlier in the day Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom reinstated his closure order for a wide range of businesses across the state while school officials in Los Angeles and San Diego said they planned to start the new school year with all classes online.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, there have been 333,356 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported across California, with the total number of deaths statewide now at 7,089.
Nationally, there have now been 3.37 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the U.S. death toll from the virus now at more than 137,000.
