When the attack on her parents’ hometown of Kharkiv started, her parents narrowly escaped. Her friends and family have become displaced all throughout Ukraine. Nataliia also has relatives in Russia who don’t believe Russia is waging war on Ukraine.

Dr. Kasianenko, a professor of political science at Fresno State, is also a scholar of Ukrainian and Russian politics. Her research focuses on Comparative Politics and International Relations, with an emphasis on nationalism, identity politics, and human rights in the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

Nataliia will share her personal story, as well as discuss how the war in Ukraine has evolved, the nature of Putin’s regime, and the future of Ukraine.
