COARSEGOLD – A head-on collision near Mecca Lane on Sunday resulted in serious injury to a local doctor, and the arrest of the driver who crashed into him for driving under the influence.

Cathy Ann Robertson, 52, of Los Banos was headed southbound on Highway 41 at 8:21 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 in a 2009 Toyota Camry. According to Sgt. Ed Greene of the CHP, she had been drinking at the Chukchansi Casino.Robertson drifted across the center line and into the northbound lane where she collided with a 1997 Porche 911, driven by Dr. John McBride, an Oakhurst physician.

Robertson then ran away from the scene, according to Sgt. Greene, and hid in some bushes.

She was apprehended and arrested for driving under the influence, DUI causing injury to another with a blood alcohol level of .08 or greater, felony hit and run, and obstructing or delaying a peace officer. She was booked into the Madera County Jail.

Traffic was diverted through Yosemite Lakes Park, and Highway 41 was closed down for about an hour.

Dr. McBride was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. His office staff say that his schedule has been cleared for at least the next month, but that the office is still open, and others on staff are available to care for Dr. McBride’s patients.

  1. Who ever might know this “Cathy Ann Robertson, 52”, please tell her, “Go back to Los Banos, and never return to Coarsegold”. She is welcome to kill her self, if she is intent on doing so. Just don’t take any of us with her.

To Chuckchansi Casino: I hope Dr. John McBride sues you guys, big time. You apparently continued to serve your patron, and current town drunk, Cathy Ann Robertson – and you contributed to this horrific accident. I am so sick of you self centered drunks, killing innocent people.

  2. I am one of Dr. McBride’s employees and it’s been a very difficult week partly because we keep getting calls saying they heard “Doctor McBride Died” or “they took him off of life support” or “when is the memorial service?” Please get your facts straight before you share with anyone else. Check, double check and triple check your facts. We appreciate all your prayers. Thank you.
