OAKHURST – A mountain area couple caught squatting on private property ended up behind bars after the trailer they had been staying in was determined to be stolen.
Darrin Eugene Eidson, 43, of Oakhurst, and Susan Wright, 44, of Coarsegold, were taken into custody Tuesday, Feb. 4, after a deputy caught the pair trespassing on private property near Lewis Creek just north of Oakhurst, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Eidson reportedly admitted that the trailer might be stolen, but didn’t think that was the case. When asked how he acquired it, he said he had purchased it. When asked how much he paid, he told deputies that he and the seller were still negotiating price.
The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Redondo Beach, CA, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Wright was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and two bindles of methamphetamine.
Both were transported to Madera County Department of Corrections.
Eidson was booked for possession of stolen property and is being held with bail set at $10,000.
Wright was booked for narcotics possession, and posted her $1,000 bail shortly after booking. She is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 25.
