OAKHURST – Sierra Mountain Little League (SMLL) will announce their teams for the season this Saturday, Feb. 8, on the Little League fields near the Oakhurst Community Center. The event starts at 9 a.m.
Families are invited to come and learn which team each child will play for in the 2014 season.
Donuts, coffee, hot chocolate and juice will be available for purchase for $1 each.
SMLL president Robin Ward is enthusiastic about the coming season. “We are proud to announce two major and and minor A teams, five coach-pitch transitioning to kid-pitch within the month, and four T-ball teams! This is a building year and we are focusing on the development of our athletes,” continues Ward. “We will also be interleaguing with Yosemite Lakes Park (YLP), as well.”
Ward and her family are among many that have been gearing up to “play ball!”
“Baseball is as American as apple pie,” says parent Julie Greenwood, whose sons Adam and Alec are both involved.
“Our whole family is looking forward to this season. My husband Ron got involved in helping to get the field ready during pre-season. I’m working hard alongside a great group of parents to get the snack shed ready to go with ‘peanuts and cracker jacks,’ our boys are all signed up and my daughter Ashlyn is going to sing the national anthem on opening day with her friend Keylee Andersen. We can’t wait for SMLL baseball season to start!”
SMLL is for kids ages 4-12. Children under age 7 participate without regard to skill level. Players age 7-12 are required to try out.
