This is a pivotal time for k-12 education in California, our kids have suffered tremendous learning loss, so we need every vote for candidates that will focus academics not social agendas.
I served on the Coarsegold Union School district Board for 6 years. I ran for the board because I felt that parents were not being heard by the administration, and that policy development did not sufficiently include stakeholder input. At that time, our little rural district was facing insufficient revenue reserves. Our YUSD district is facing the same issues and EVEN MORE today.
Marc has lived in YLP most of his life. He attended Coarsegold, Rivergold and Yosemite High. Marc is raising his family in YLP, and his children were in the YUSD school district until concerns about the program caused them to move to a public school charter. Many parents have expressed similar concerns, and have left the district. Over 180 students have left since 2018. This is decreased revenue and weakened programs.
Marc has a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and 13 years of experience in accounting, workforce development and contracts analysis. He is humble and soft spoken. He is analytical and thorough. He has experience collaborating with diverse team members and creating well vetted solutions. He respects the family’s role of instilling their own social values. Marc believes YUSD should focus on academic excellence, not social agendas.
Marc wants to make sure that the district chooses evidence-based curriculum and strategies to help address the severe learning loss experienced by the YUSD closures. Marc believes our district can do a better job, and wants to be part of that process.
Marc wants to help ensure that parents, community members and staff, all feel heard and represented. He loves this community and has excellent skills, character qualities, and education that will make him a great representative for parents, students and community members.
I am well acquainted with the challenges of serving on a school board, and I believe Marc Gilchrist has the perfect skill set for the job!
