Lady Badgers Lead Again

OAKHURST – The Yosemite High School girls golf team got off to a great start last week, in their pursuit of a 10th NSL Championship in a row.

The Lady Badgers team played against all of the other NSL teams on Wednesday, Sept. 3, in a mini-tournament. Participating teams in addition to Yosemite were Liberty Ranchos, Kerman, Sierra, and Chowchilla.

The team was led by YHS seniors Kelsi Stieler and Jessica Rudd. Kelsi had 43 points and shot a one over par 37, while Jessica had 41 points and shot two over par.

They were supported by freshman Claire Oetinger, who shot 45 and 30 points. Libby Haggard had a strong showing by shooting 48 and grabbing 27 points for the team. Jordyn Ahrens was the final scorer for Yosemite at 20 points, while shooting 52.

On Friday, Sept. 5, Yosemite High School had a great day against Clovis East. Badgers won 167 points to 107 points. Our medalists for the match were Jessica Rudd with 42 points, Clair Oetinger scored 37 points, and Jordyn Ahrens scored 35. We are now 4 and 0 in duel team matches.

We are very encouraged by the early season scores. If we can get all the girls to shoot under 50 strokes we’ll be in good shape for the rest of the season.

Rusty Oetinger is an instructor and golf coach at YHS.
