Kickoff Event For 20th Anniversary Of Local Relay For Life

MOUNTAIN AREA — This year marks the 20th Annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life in our mountain community and now, the event is evolving with a new name, new look, and a new location.

Sierra Mountain Communities for a Cure

On Friday, Mar. 29 and Saturday Mar. 30, Minarets High School will host the freshly-dubbed Sierra Mountain Communities for a Cure. The goal is to bring together all of the mountain communities, businesses, and schools for a great purpose — to support the American Cancer Society in its mission to fight cancer.

This is not the traditional Relay as in years past, says event volunteer Therese Righter.

“No, you do not need to walk the track and everyone is welcome!” she notes.

Friday night will feature a Luminaria Ceremony to honor those who are either survivors, fighters, or who have lost their battle with cancer. In addition, dinner will be available, hosted by Minarets Youth Wrestling. There will also be performances by the Minarets Show Band and local artists.

Saturday will include a free Survivors Breakfast, and a special Survivors Lap, as well as food, games, and activities for the whole community.

Please join with organizers on Kickoff Night, this coming Thursday, Jan. 31 from 3 – 6 p.m. at Minarets High School in the Media Lounge. Stop by to learn more about the mission of Relay for Life, and join together with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers in the fight against cancer.
