OAKHURST — Summer’s a-comin’ and you know you need room in your garage for toys, so take advantage of this annual chance to clean out that storage area or shed, get rid of that broken TV and dispose of paint and dangerous chemicals.
Madera County is sponsoring a one-day hazardous waste disposal event on Saturday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Yosemite High School, 50200 Road 427 in Oakhurst.
None of the items listed below for disposal should be poured into home drains, storm drains or septic tanks. Instead, toxic or hazardous chemicals must be transported with care and disposed of responsibly, and Madera County is providing residents that service, free of charge.
Items accepted for disposal include:
- Motor oil & filters
- Grease
- Batteries
- Antifreeze
- Brake fluid
- Ammonia-based cleaners
- Drain cleaners
- Aerosol cans
- Oven cleaners
- Spot removers
- Mercury-containing items
- Televisions
- Computers
- VCRs & accessories
- Fluorescent lamps & tubes
- Wood preservatives
- Solvents
- Paint cans & paint remover
- Photographic chemicals
- Art supplies
- Insect spray
- Weed killers
- Pool chemicals
- Pesticides
- Household needles
- Lancets and syringes
Quantities limited to 15 gallons of liquids or 125 pounds of solids per trip.
Not accepted:
- Medical waste
- Radioactive material
- Large compresses gas cylinders
