HOW Oakhurst Honors Joyce Papazian

OAKHURST – The Oakhurst branch of Helping One Woman (HOW) will meet at El Cid’s Mexican Cuisine tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 12, in support of Joyce Papazian. The gathering begins at 6 p.m. and reservations are requested.

Many people remember Joyce as the energetic and helpful woman working at Miller’s Mountain Sports. Recently diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, Joyce is currently undergoing chemotherapy to fight the disease, according to her daughter, Taneisha Winnett-Cockerham. Tonight’s dinner to honor Joyce includes a terrific raffle thanks to many who have donated to support the event.

The Oakhurst Chapter of HOW honors one recipient each month whose name is drawn from nominations offered by those who participate. HOW attendees purchase their own dinner and provide a cash gift of $10 or more. The monetary gift is a meant as support for a woman in a time of loss or illness, while the emotional support the group provides is the driving force behind the organization.

Please come out and share with Joyce your support and friendship and encouragement,” say organizers. “This force is powerful, and healing, and your support is greatly appreciated!”

Organizers expect Brenda Critzer, one of the founders of Helping One Woman, to attend this evening’s meal and meeting. HOW usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month, but the date has been expedited due to the coming Thanksgiving holiday. This is the last HOW meeting of the year: the group traditionally doesn’t meet in December, so tonight’s meeting will include an announcement of the new HOW team for 2015.

Contact El Cid for reservations. For more information, visit HOW on Facebook.
