COARSEGOLD – A family in the Coarsegold area suffered a devastating beginning to the new year when their home was destroyed in an early morning fire.
At 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Road 415 near the Fresno River. When the first engines arrived on scene, the home was 50 percent engulfed in flames.
Family members who were house-sitting were awakened by the sounds of a smoke detector alarm, and called 911.
Despite the best efforts of all the firefighters available, the 2,000 square foot home was a total loss, suffering an estimated $250,000 in damage.
Five engines from the Madera County Fire Department and Cal Fire responded, along with two water tenders and a breathing support unit, for a total of sixteen personnel.
No injuries to either the family or the first responders were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
