Boys And Girls Club Holiday Fun

OAKHURST – Early November at the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) was all about members being outside, enjoying the warm sun with the parachute on the field, playing sports and games, and even getting prizes!

We try to get the kids outside as much as we can when the weather is good. The kids love it, they get lots of exercise and have a great time.

Volunteer and graduate YHS student Jared Cordingly is back in action teaching the kids about the skate park and riding scooters, boards, and bike safety, all while having fun here at the Club. Thank you, Jared!

Dec 2014 Thanksgiving1

At the end of school before Turkey Break, happy BGC kids rolled in with Thanksgiving greatness from their elementary school classroom art projects. It was fun to see them all dressed up in their Thanksgiving finery. The Club stayed open for three days over break, the last day hosting its annual Thanksgiving feast.

Thanks to the BGC staff, the members and their families who brought dishes and desserts, assisted in party prep and tear down, shared the fun and helped out. A big thanks to my husband William, and my mother and father-in-law Sigrid and Jerry for cooking all the turkeys. It was a huge success! It’s always a blessing to have everyone come together for this event every year, and we plan on its continued success.

Dec 2014 ThanksgivingEarly December brought much needed rain to our area, keeping the kids mostly cooped up inside. Breaks in the storms brought the members flying out of the BGC Clubhouse and onto the yard for much needed games of dodge-ball, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, and kickball. Their happy smiling faces showed they were having a great time, and getting all their stored-up energy out!

Our whole Fresno BGC organization had a Christmas card coloring contest and the award winners were announced in early December. Of the 17 Clubs and hundreds of members submissions, there were prizes for 1st through 7th place. Of the seven prizes, our Oakhurst BGC kids took home three of the seven. Awesome! Congrats Gracie, Allie, and Athena on their awesome win and excellent artwork!

Dec 2014 ParachuteMid-December we had a delivery from Toys for Tots at the Club, and thanks go out to Dennis, Mike and the Marine Corps Reserve of Eastern Madera County. You guys are the best.

Before closing for Christmas Break we had a great arts and crafts projects at the Club keeping a huge group of our members happy and allowing them to be artistic with this cold blustery weather.

Dec 2014 Art ContestWho knew ceramics, acrylics, fabric circles and squares, and some puffy paint could bring so much brightness on these long dark winter days? We did! Special thanks to volunteer Dana Allen for helping and bringing special snacks throughout the month.

To end the month, and before Winter Break starts, we will be having a small Christmas party with cookies and sweets here at the Club.

Dec 2014 Arts CraftsWith the New Year fast approaching, if you’re thinking about signing your kids up for the BGC, now is the perfect time! We would love to have many more members with the beginning of the year. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
