Highway 49 Reopens To One-Lane Traffic

MARIPOSA COUNTY – Highway 49 is being reopened to one-lane traffic across the William Sell bridge where the Bridge Fire is burning.

Fire equipment is lining the northbound lane, and motorists are urged to be patient and be aware of fire personnel along the roadway. Expect long delays.

All road closures remain in effect for the Ponderosa Basin area, including Harris Ranch and Harris Cutoff Roads.

Chowchilla Mountain Road is closed to all but evacuation and emergency traffic. All roads leading in and out of the Ponderosa Basin are closed.

Evacuations remain in effect for homes on Harris Cutoff Road and all of the Ponderosa Basin Area.

A Red Cross Shelter and evacuation resource center has been established at the New Life Christian Church located on Cole Road in Bootjack. Large animals can be evacuated to the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.
