Head-On Collision Closes Highway 41

Traffic was stopped in both directions for nearly two hours on Tuesday, Oct. 30, after two vehicles collided head-on in a narrow part of Highway 41 just south of Chukchansi Casino at Mecca Lane.

The call came in at 3:09 p.m., as traffic began backing up in both lanes, and was soon stopped all the way back to Road 416 and beyond in the southbound lane.Highway 41 and Mecca Traffic Backup 10-30-12CHP and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, along with Cal Trans who stationed a sign truck just south of Road 416 to warn motorists of the closure. Emergency Medical Services, and Doc’s Towing also responded to the wreck.

When we spoke to Officer Grocholski of the CHP, the accident was still being cleared, and very little information was yet available.

Highway 41 and Mecca 10-30-12What we were able to learn is that a small sedan traveling northbound, and a pickup pulling a trailer going southbound, collided head-on. No information is yet available on those involved, or any injuries sustained.

One of our readers on the scene is reporting that a helicopter landed in the middle of the highway to airlift one of the victims. We cannot confirm any reports at this time, but will follow up with law enforcement, and give you more details when they become available from the CHP on Wednesday morning.
