MADERA COUNTY – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office has reported that they received a call from a woman at 12:53 a.m. this morning, Sept. 6, from someone claiming that Sierra Tel president Harry Baker had been kidnapped.
The called said that Baker was kidnapped in Modesto and brought to Madera County to withdraw funds as he was being held for ransom.
Baker was then reportedly brought back to Modesto where he was said to have been held against his will.
No one involved, including the reporting party or others possibly connected to this individual, are cooperating with law enforcement, according to Erica Stuart, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
“Within the last hour one of detectives received a call from someone saying he was Harry Baker, and that he had been advised that we are actively trying to locate him,” reports Stuart. “The caller said he was fine.”
Sheriff John Anderson reportedly spoke to Mr. Baker on the phone shortly before 1:30 p.m. today, and then sent a deputy to his office to see Baker face to face.
There appears to be no credence to the report to the sheriff that Harry Baker was ever kidnapped.
“Our office takes these calls very seriously and resources were exhausted by this department in an effort to find Harry Baker and make sure he was safe and unharmed,” says Stuart.
Baker was scheduled to appear in court today. That has now been rescheduled.
