Hark! The Oakhurst String Orchestra Plays Christmas

OAKHURST – Get ready for not one but two inspiring Christmas concerts presented by the Oakhurst Community String Orchestra (OCSO).

The concerts will be Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Oakhurst Lutheran Church, and Thursday, Dec. 6 at Sierra Pines Church. Both start at 6:30 p.m.The string orchestra is comprised of adults and students, age 10 and up, playing violin, viola, cello and string bass.

From the opening sinfonia, Entrance of the Queen of Sheba, by 18th century composer Handel, followed by Mozart’s 25th, the modern sounds of Copeland and some favorite Christmas classics, the gathering promises to be a treat for the ears.

The OCSO is in its 2nd season, fine-tuned under the direction of violinist Tim Johnson. Johnson is a classical violinist, fiddler, and recording artist, and a mentor to community string musicians, violinists and fiddlers.

OCSO concert-goers will be be treated to inspiring and sometimes rousing renditions of holiday favorites like Joy to the World, The First Noel, Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Deck the Halls. Following an intermission, the audience will be invited to sing along to many holiday favorites.

Each night of strings is symmetrically bookended by Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.

Either date, whether Tuesday at Oakhurst Lutheran or Thursday at Sierra Pines, is sure to be an evening well-spent. So nice, you might just want to hear it twice.

Get into the Christmas spirit with an affordable night of beautiful holiday music. Suggested donation for each concert is $10, with tickets and information available by calling the churches.

All proceeds go to the OCSO.
