MADERA COUNTY – A fire next to Highway 41 in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 5, caused the temporary closing of northbound lanes while firefighters put equipment in place.
Just before 1 a.m, a motorist reported that he had lost a tire off his Chevy pickup, and that it started a grass fire just off the east side of the road.
CHP and sheriff’s deputies were called out to implement traffic control at the location, which was just south of Road 200 at the northbound passing lanes.
Madera County Engine #17 out of O’Neals responded along with Cal Fire Engine #4295 from Coarsegold. The fire was quickly contained at what was estimated at about a quarter of an acre.
No structures were threatened and no one was injured.
