Got Blood? Give A Little

Real Goods Solar offers gifts Friday for your gift of blood

CLOVIS – It takes between 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood a month to meet the needs of residents in the Central Valley. Can you help meet that goal?

You have the chance to help save lives, and do something for the environment too, during the Central California Blood Center blood drive this Friday, Sept. 21.Real Goods Solar invites you to “recycle yourself” by participating in the blood drive at any Central California Blood Center location in Fresno and Visalia, or between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday at the Real Goods Solar kiosk in Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis.

“Your gift of a pint of blood can save up to three lives,” said Chris Sorensen, the blood center’s director of community relations.

Every donor will receive an aluminum water bottle from Real Goods Solar and a “Recycle Yourself” Tote Bag, plus a variety of discounts from Valley businesses for dining, recreation, entertainment and services, Sorensen said.

Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old – or 16 years old with written parental consent. Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no upper age limit, Sorensen said.

Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours of giving blood. Donors can give blood every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social Security Number are required at registration.

The Central California Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa Counties.

Blood Center locations are open for your donations 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. Some are open Saturday, as well, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. Visit www.donateblood.org for more information including hours and phone numbers for these locations:
