Golden Chain Holds Auditions For WWII Drama

OAKHURST – The historic and newly invigorated Golden Chain Theatre (GCT) is holding auditions on Monday, Mar. 2 and Tuesday, Mar. 3 for an upcoming performance and world premiere of “The Wardrobe,” a drama set in World War II.

Auditions start at 7:30 p.m., on stage at GCT. Producers will be cast two men, four women, a young teenage boy and a year-old baby girl. The show is rated PG due to mild language and theme.

James Mierkey is set to direct the play, a World War II drama in which Elena, a young fugitive from the Warsaw ghetto, seeks a safe haven from Nazi persecution. Polish police arrange for Elena to stay with Magda, a God-fearing Catholic woman. Their relationship grows and deepens as the strain of the occupation continues, while dwindling food supplies, the burning of the Jewish ghetto, and the Warsaw uprising press upon the family.

“GCT is proud to be the very first to perform William Strubbe’s “The Wardrobe,” says Jennifer Piccolotti, the theater’s Artistic Director. “This author and playwright from Northern California will be in attendance on Opening Night.”
