Gift in Bob Stark’s Memory Helps Care for Local Patients

A Catheys Valley family’s donation fills a hospital equipment need and allows earlier contributions to support another purchase.

A gift in memory of Catheys Valley resident Bob Stark will help patients at John C. Fremont Healthcare District—and allow community donations to reach further.

After Stark’s death, his family learned the JCF Hospital Foundation was raising $6,528 for an Arjo patient lift. They had a new, unused lift and donated it to meet the need.

According to Chief Nursing Officer Rachel Key, the stand-assist equipment will help staff support patients’ mobility while protecting dignity and reducing injury risks.

The gift also changes what happens next. Community members had already contributed $2,200 toward the lift. With that need met, the Foundation says those donations will go toward a BiPAP machine for the hospital.

“There is something incredibly meaningful about a family experiencing loss and choosing to turn that grief into an act of generosity,” Executive Administrator Miranda Wass said in the Foundation’s announcement, published by Sierra Sun Times.

Information about supporting the Foundation’s equipment fundraising is available on its donation page.
