At around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, a significant debris slide blocked both lanes of SR-140. Caltrans and the California High Patrol (CHP) acted immediately. Road closures are underway at Savage Trading Post on the west and Yosemite Cedar Lodge on the east.

Ongoing Safety Measures

Following additional movement of the debris overnight into Tuesday, Caltrans and CHP are taking extended safety precautions. The road will remain closed while assessments and necessary repairs are carried out by Caltrans Geo-Tech and Highway Operation staff.

Moreover, Caltrans has advised that there is currently no estimated time for reopening SR-140. Motorists should avoid this area and take alternate routes such as SR-141 and SR-120 to access Yosemite National Park.

Additionally, Caltrans has communicated with local school districts, law enforcement agencies, CAL-Fire, Yosemite National Park, and the Yosemite Area Transportation System (YARTS) to inform them of the long-term closure.

To assist travelers, updates will be provided through overhead changeable message signs along several other state routes, Caltrans’ QuickMap app, or quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
