French Guitarist Claude Bourbon At Coolwater Ranch

AHWAHNEE — Bringing a unique flavor to a wide range of musical traditions, Claude Bourbon is known throughout Europe and America for amazing guitar performances that take blues, Spanish, Middle Eastern and Russian stylings into uncharted territories.

Each year Bourbon plays more than 100 shows around the world, and on Saturday, May 20, he brings his remarkable style to Coolwater Ranch in Ahwahnee. The concert starts at 8 p.m.

French musician (by way of England) who plays a style he has dubbed “Medieval Spanish Blues,” Claude has a sound that is unique to him and suits him well.

With a voice that is a cross between Mark Knoppfler and a young Bob Dylan, this soloist has a sound that is ethereal and full of ambience.

Claude has played countless venues, including Glastonbury Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, Colne Great British & Blues Festival, Rock O’Z Arene, and Avenches, Switzerland, among others. He has shared the stage in Europe and the USA with countless musicians, including Calvin Russel, Charlie Morgan, Elton John, Jan Akkerman (Focus), Steve Grossman (Miles Davis), Herbie Armstrong (Van Morisson), Jose Barrense-Dias and many more.

Now based in the UK, some of this guitarist’s influences allow a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician – Paco De Lucia, Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore, Joaquin Rodrigo, JJ Cale and JS Bach.

One reviewer even noted that although “Claude’s roots were in blues, that is like saying Leonardo da Vinci was a painter.”

Good new about Coolwater Ranch concerts – they have a new sponsor to help keep the shrimp and cookies flowing – welcome aboard and much gratitude to The Redwoods!

You can read all about Claude Bourbon on the Coolwater Ranch website at www.coolwaterconcerts.com. And more good news – a new feature is being added, allowing you to get your passes through PayPal, says Coolwater host Robin Ralston.

“Passes will still be available at Oakhurst Feed and Mountain Feed for the time being, but I want to give the PayPal donation thing a try. It should be easier for all of you and the money for the artist will all be in one place. ALL donations are paid to the artist. I keep zip, zero, zilch, nada. I will include the PayPal button ONLY for show currently coming up; I cannot take donations for artists further down the line.”

Passes for this show are, as always, available at Oakhurst Feed and Mountain Feed and Nursery, or you can contact Robin at 559-760-1134 or email info@coolwaterconcerts.com to have a reservation at the door. Suggested donation for the artist is $25 in advance, $30 at the door.

Concerts at the ranch are small not for profit (an understatement, says Robin!) social events attended by about 40 friends, neighbors and family. About 20 additional seats are available by arrangement to interested listeners.

Coolwater Ranch is located in Ahwahnee, just ten minutes from Oakhurst at 45680 Forest Ridge Drive.

Just a few house rules attendees are asked to follow please: no alcohol, drugs or smoking and no children under 16. The Coolwater Concert Series is sponsored in part by Tenaya Lodge.

As always, there will be a variety of foods and non-alcoholic beverages available at no extra cost.
