Free Workshop: Understanding Difficult Behaviors Of Dementia

OAKHURST — Valley Caregiver Resource Center invites community members to a free family caregiver workshop on Understanding Difficult Behaviors of Dementia.

Participants in the workshop who are unpaid caregivers will learn how to better understand what dementia is and what it is not, according to organizers.

Practical tips will be offered to help family members or friends with dementia cope with troubling behaviors including aggression, agitation, hallucinations, paranoia, repetitive speech and actions, sundowning, wandering, and even a seemingly simple personal task such as bathing.

The free workshop is offered on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church, from 10 a.m. to noon. Pre-registration is required for all family caregivers in order to ensure that seats are available for this informative seminar, and class size is limited.

For more information call Valley Caregiver Resource Center at (559) 224-9154 or (800) 541-8614.

If you or someone you know requires special accommodations, please contact organizers a week prior to the event. Some financial assistance is available for respite care. This workshop is funded by grants from the California Department of Health Care Services and the Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging.
