Submitted by Tony Misner —

OAKHURST — Want to work hard, get dirty, and travel across the country in an exhilerating position that’s a meaningful career and not just a job? Here’s an opportunity to become a wildland firefighter — and the classes are free.

Yosemite Adult School, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, will be offering two Wildland Fire Academies in 2018 – 2019 school year. These courses are free of charge. The first academy is scheduled for Nov. 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18, 2018. The second academy is scheduled for Mar. 15, 16, 17 and 22, 23, 24, 2019.

After completion of this 40-hour course you will earn National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S-180, L-180, and S-190 certificates. These certificates meet the basic wildland firefighter training standards for all the Federal Wildland Fire Agencies.
