Free Legal Services For Mariposa Senior Citizens

MARIPOSA — The Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities has announced a partnership with Central California Legal Services Inc. (CCLS) to provide free legal services through the Legal Advocacy for Seniors Program for those age 60 and over in Mariposa County.

The program provides legal information and advice, self-help, and preparation of simple estate planning documents including wills and power of attorney. Legal topics include simple estate planning, elder abuse, financial fraud, housing matters, utility/solar contract disputes, and more.

Referrals to other legal and community resources are also available.

Services are free to those age 60 and over regardless of race, religion, or income. CCLS attorneys Christopher Goodness and Paul Carter Mullen will provide legal services and Program Coordinator, Linda Campbell, will provide program support.

Program hours are the first Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mariposa Senior Activity Center, located at 5246 Spriggs Lane. Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling (209) 532-7632.

Legal Advocacy for Seniors Program volunteer advocates are needed. The time commitment is approximately four hours per month and volunteer advocates provide assistance with completing the client paperwork.
