OAKHURST — The beginning of a new school year can be exciting, filled with new clothes, new haircuts and school supplies. At this same time, there are families in our community that dread the new school year, wondering how they will afford all the costs.
For another year, the Women’s Ministry at Sierra Pines Church wants to help meet this need in the community and, specifically, help those families that cannot afford the extra costs of getting back to school, so they have decided to host a “Back to School Blessings” day.
In order to support the community, the church will be providing free backpacks filled with school supplies like pencils, pencil sharpeners, folders, spiral notebooks crayons and glue sticks.
In addition, volunteer hairdressers will offer free haircuts for kids. The men’s ministry will barbecue hamburgers for $1 and the prayer team will be there for anyone who would like prayer.
Last year, the women gave away more than 100 backpacks to students in the community.
This event will take place Sunday, July 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Sierra Pines Church, located at 40855 Covey Court in Oakhurst. Organizers say this is open to those who need a little help getting started off on the right foot.
