Food, Family, & Farm Month Includes Over 15 Events

FRESNO STATE —  Fresno State‘s Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology will host its sixth annual Food, Family, and Farm Month.  Therefore, offering nearly 20 events from mid-October to late November.  Moreover, the series aims to highlight the college’s deep ties to the local agricultural industry.  As a result, the event will feature students, faculty, staff, and community members.   All events are open to the public, with many offered for free.

Jordan College Open House

Initially, the month of events kicks off with the Jordan College Open House.  This event is on Saturday, October 19th, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at O’Neill Park.  During the open house, attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities, including campus farm and winery tours, drone demonstrations, and research presentations.  Additionally, Fresno State’s mascot, Victor E. Bulldog IV, will make a special appearance.

Fall Plant Sale & Festival at Gibson Farm Market

During these events, there will be activities for everyone. Making these events perfect for family-fun all while supporting agriculture.

Also on October 19th, the Gibson Farm Market will hose a plant sale at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Fall Festival from noon to 3:00 p.m.   The festival will offer a variety of attractions, such as pumpkin patch, wine tasting, food samples, and activities for children.  Meanwhile, visitors can explore the market’s other seasonal offerings throughout the day.

For wine enthusiasts, viticulture and enology students will host free Friday wine tastings on November 1st and November 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.   Each tasting will feature a selected “wine of the month” available at a 20% discount.  Furthermore, these tasting provide a unique opportunity to sample student-made wines.

Whole Vine Festival

Additionally, the Whole Vine Festival will take place over the weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 19th, and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on October 20th.  Located on the campus lawn near the Science II Building, the event will celebrate the San Joaquin Valley’s grape industry.  Guests can enjoy food samples, wine tasting, art displays, and live music.  Not to mention, there will be educational exhibits that showcase the region’s agricultural significance.

Ag One Foundation Fundraisers

Moreover, to support agricultural students and programs, the Ag One Foundation will organize several fundraising events:

  • Turf Day Golf Classic: 53rd annual event will take place at Belmont Country Club on Friday, October 18th.  Golfers can enjoy a day on the course while contributing to the cause.
  • Kern County Alumni & Friends Luncheon:  The 45h annual luncheon will be held on Wednesday, October 30th, at Cal West Rain in Bakersfield.  In turn, bringing together alumni and industry supporters.
  • West Side Luncheon:  Scheduled for Thursday, November 7th, at Fresno Equipment Company in Five Points, the event will provide another opportunity for networking and support.

Furthermore, on November 8th, the Bulldoggers campus rodeo will host its annual rodeo at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds.  Here, the event will feature competition among the West Coast’s top collegiate rodeo teams, with tickets available for purchase online.

Viticulture Club Fall Harvest BBQ

Also, on November 8th, the Viticulture Club will hold its 71st annual Fall Harvest Barbeque at Kings River Winery in Sanger.  Starting at 5:30 p.m., the event will offer food, wine, and an auction, with proceeds benefiting the student club’s activities.  Regular admission is $75, with discounted rated available for students and veterans.

Internship & Career Fair

Likewise, the 16th annual internship and career fair will occur on November 20th at the Fresno State Winery.  Running from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., it will connect students with potential employers in the agricultural sector.  Interested employers should register early to secure a spot.

Ag Tech Day

Also, the Center for Irrigation Technology will host the eighth annual Ag Tech Day on October 25th from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the University Agricultural Laboratory.  The event will include technology demonstrations and a vendor exposition targeting growers and industry members.  Importantly, Ag Tech Day aims to highlight innovative solutions in agricultural technology.

Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program Webinar

Demonstrating water pumping efficiency at Fresno State’s Center for Irrigation Technology to promote sustainable agriculture.

Moreover, to educate the public on irrigation technology, the Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program will offer a free webinar on November 7th from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.  Presented by education specialist Anthony Gunlund, the webinar will discuss efficient pumping techniques.

Agribusiness Management Conference

Finally, the month’s events will wrap up with the 43rd annual Agribusiness Management Conference on November 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Pardini’s Banquets and Catering.  Moreover, Agricultural industry experts will discuss economic trends and policy issues affecting the sector, with early bird registration available through November 1st.
