OAKHURST — If you’re curious about the recovery of our forest landscapes post-wildfire, particularly as that relates to local giant sequoia trees, then this may be the opportunity for you to learn more about this fascinating subject.

On Saturday, July 14, the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway Association (SVSBA) will host another tour, this one of the Graveyard of the Giants Trail in Nelder Grove.

Local expert and author Brenda Negley, and Forest Service Recreation Specialist Cori Hayth will lead a six-mile round trip hike to observe the impacts, fire ecology and recovery of the vegetation in Nelder Grove after the Railroad Fire of 2017.

The hike will be moderate to strenuous, but with many stops along the way.

Participants will meet at Batterson Fire Station, 43060 Highway 41, at 9 a.m., and the tour will last until about 3 p.m.

Please bring a backpack to carry lunch, snacks, drinking water, sunscreen, hat, etc., and wear sturdy shoes or boots that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty.

To RSVP please call Brenda Negley at (559) 760-9108.
